Huawei has unveiled the Honor V30 and the Honor V30 Pro in China. Both models are 5G-enabled and run on Huawei's HiSilicon Kirin 990 chipset. It is built with the 7nm FinFET Plus EUV (extreme ultraviolet lithography) node by TSMC and is more compact than the Snapdragon 885+5G modem combo.
It also has 10.3 billion transistors, the first for a mobile system-on-chip, which makes it more power-efficient. The Honor V30 has the standard Kirin 990 unit with the Balong 5000 modem, while the Honor V30 Pro arrives with an integrated 5G solution.
The Kirin 990 5G system-on-chip features an octa-core CPU in a tri-cluster architecture consisting of 2x 2.86GHz Cortex-A76 cores, 2x 2.36GHz Cortex-A76 cores and 4x 1.95GHz Cortex-A55 cores. A 16-core Mali-G76 GPU handles the graphics and promises immersive gaming.
The SoC employs the new 5th Gen. Dual ISP, a quad-core Neural Processing Unit (NPU) based on its in-house developed DaVinci architecture, and a new Kirin A1 co-processor for improved power efficiency.
In addition, both the Honor V30 and the Honor V30 Pro have 6.57-inch FHD+ displays with an oval punch hole for the two front cameras - a 32MP main unit with Super Night Mode and an 8MP ultrawide camera with a 105-degree angle of view. On the back, there are three cameras on each of the models.
The main shooter employs a 40MP Sony IMX600 with an f/1.8 (V30) or f/1.6 (V30 Pro) aperture, dual OIS and lased autofocus. The second camera is an 8MP telephoto unit that's optically stabilized and has an f/2.2 aperture and provides up to 3x optical zoom.
The Honor V30 features an 8MP ultrawide camera with an f/2.4 aperture, while the Honor V30 Pro packs a more advanced ultrawide unit with a 12MP sensor and an f/2.2 aperture.
Both models run on Magic UI 3.0.1 based on Android 10 and have additional software features such as GPU Turbo and Kirin Gaming+ 2.0 for an enhanced gaming experience. The Honor V30 is equipped with a 4200 mAh battery with a 40W Honor SuperCharge, while the Honor V30 Pro packs a 4100 mAh battery with a 40W Honor SuperCharge and a 27W Super Wireless Charge.
